Caregiver Training
Caregiver Training at Better Joints Therapy, LLC is designed to help family members and care staff feel safer, more confident, and less overwhelmed in their day-to-day responsibilities. We draw on decades of rehabilitation experience to teach practical, hands-on skills that protect both the person being cared for and the caregiver.
Through mobility assistance training, we demonstrate and practice safe ways to help with transfers - such as moving from bed to chair, standing from a toilet, or getting in and out of a car - as well as steady, supported walking. We focus on body mechanics and simple techniques that reduce the risk of falls and back injuries, making these frequent tasks feel more manageable.
Our communication skills training for caregivers addresses common challenges like hearing loss, memory changes, word-finding difficulty, or dementia-related confusion. We offer specific phrases, tone, and pacing strategies that can turn frustrating interactions into calmer, more cooperative moments. This often leads to fewer arguments, less agitation, and a more peaceful home or facility environment.
Personal care techniques training covers bathing, dressing, grooming, and hygiene in a way that respects dignity and privacy. We show you how to set up the space, use adaptive equipment when helpful, and move through each step safely. Learning these methods can reduce resistance, shorten the time needed for care tasks, and increase the person's comfort and sense of control.
Whether you are a spouse, adult child, or professional caregiver, our goal is to replace guesswork with skill. When caregivers feel prepared, they are better able to keep loved ones at home longer, respond effectively to changes, and preserve their own health in the process.
