Speech Therapy
Speech Therapy at Better Joints Therapy, LLC supports three essential areas of independence for adults and seniors: clear communication, safe swallowing, and strong thinking skills. We start with a careful speech and language evaluation to understand exactly what has changed - whether it is trouble finding words, understanding others, speaking clearly, or managing swallowing.
For many, the first concern is being understood. We work on articulation, voice strength, and language skills so conversations feel easier and less frustrating. This may include practicing specific sounds, pacing, or breathing patterns, as well as strategies to stay involved in family discussions, phone calls, and community activities.
Swallowing therapy is another key focus. After stroke, illness, or with age-related changes, swallowing can become difficult or unsafe. We assess how the muscles of the mouth and throat are working, then teach targeted exercises, safe eating positions, and food or liquid adjustments when needed. These steps reduce the risk of choking and aspiration, helping to prevent pneumonia and allowing mealtimes to feel safer and more enjoyable again.
Cognitive-communication therapy supports thinking skills that affect everyday function - memory, attention, problem-solving, and organization. Together, we may practice remembering important information, following multi-step directions, or planning out daily routines. We also teach practical tools, such as written reminders or structured checklists, that fit into your real life.
Our goal is not just better test scores, but tangible improvements: being able to order a meal confidently, call a loved one without anxiety, take medications correctly, and enjoy shared meals without fear. For families, this often means clearer communication, fewer misunderstandings, and more meaningful time together.
